Born and raised in the Bay Area, I have been an avid competitor my entire life. Whether it be Class 1 soccer, collegiate water polo, or CrossFit, I thrive on the competition and strive to push my mental and physical limits. The greatest reward for a competitor is attaining those goals appearing to be just out of reach. The greatest reward for a coach is inspiring and motivating athletes to push the envelope and their comfort levels to reach their goals and full potential. After all, the best part about helping someone reach their goals, is watching the development and journey along the way!
As a former college athlete, I have always been expected to train at peak performance levels. I was in varsity sports year-round at West Virginia Wesleyan College, playing football and track & field. It was during those years that I earned my B.S. in Exercise Science and went on to complete my certification as a personal trainer. I have become certified as a CrossFit™ trainer, with more specialized certifications in CrossFit™ Gymnastics and CrossFit™ Olympic Lifting. But I’ve still got some work to do! I’m challenging myself to be able to do a full gymnastics ring routine…but my 6’3” 225 lb. frame is working against me. I’ll have to tell myself what I tell my clients: “Get out of your head!"
I have been involved in some type of athletics, specifically running, for most of my life. Now that my physical activity is so varied, it seems strange to me that I put such a heavy emphasis on a single activity. In the past, I was always focused on getting skinny and losing weight...until I found CrossFit. Three years ago my life changed when I came to Lifeworx to participate in the Bring-a-Newbie event. Since that day, I was hooked! I've been dedicated to becoming the best athlete that I can be here at Lifeworx, and I have loved the process. In an effort to keep the CrossFit momentum going in my community, I obtained my Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer Certificate, as well as a CrossFit Gymnastics Certification. I am a middle school Physical Education teacher by day, and CrossFit coach by night. The blend of teaching Crossfit Kids and coaching general CrossFit has allowed me to help all my young athletes become strong and fit just like their parents! I love what CrossFit has done for me and strive every day to live as an example for those around me.
I've always been active, but found CrossFit when I was looking for something more than the conventional gym. When my cousin exposed me to CrossFit and shared with me the CrossFit games on TV, I was immediately intrigued. I finally got enough courage to come to a class at Lifeworx on June 18, 2013. A year later, I decided to get certified to become a coach and completed my Level 1 (CF-L1) Training Certification. As I continue to learn more about CrossFit and its community, I become more passionate about nutrition, mobilization and overall wellness. I'm excited to share my knowledge in CrossFit methodology and also to help our members achieve their goals of fitness.
There is nothing I am more proud of in my life than my achievements in the world of CrossFit. I was never an athlete. I spent my youth struggling with my weight and never stuck to a regular exercise routine. In 2008, I was introduced to CrossFit and began the trek to making some drastic lifestyle changes. My dedication to CrossFit has brought me to the point where I can finally call myself an athlete. I currently hold certifications as a CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer and a CrossFit Olympic Lifting coach. I am excited to continue my own training by helping every member at CrossFit Lifeworx realize how achievable lifestyle change and fitness goals are!
